Ashleigh Verrier Shops At RARE vintage on Glam.Com

Vintage is often a great source of inspiration to designers whether it is Karl Lagerfeld inspired by an early-eighteenth-century water-resistant riding jacket for a couture collection or Nicolas Ghesquiere exploring the flowers of Cristobal Balenciaga for the Spring 2008 collection.

A young fashion designer, Ashleigh Verrier, whose lovely spring collection is filled with silks, taffeta, tulle and crystal embroidery recently stopped by RARE vintage for a little inspiration with Glam.Com

W Magazine Blogs About RARE vintage

Check out today's Editor's Blog on W magazine.com to see our nothing less than spectacular 1970s Chanel Haute Couture black silk jacket lined in white silk with curled ostrich feathers.

There are some clothes that a girl dreams about, that make your heart race, that just by putting them on you become a heroine of romance, glamour and intrigue. Fantasy is a very important element to the couture: it is not about things that you need but things that you want. It is about the fantastic and the desirable and the wearable. This jacket is so beautiful, so sublime you may want to keep it to yourself like the woman who originally owned it: she never wore it out because she was afraid someone might spill red wine or burn a cigarette on it! Size 4/6.

Chanel-egance!

22 August 1928

WWD observed that "... tailored one piece frocks shown by Chanel trimmed with little white collars and cuffs... are so radical a departure from the general trend toward formality and femininity."

In 1950 Marlene Dietrich wore a dress very similar to our early 1980s Chanel Boutique dress accessorized with a white satin collar and cuffs attached by small buttons. Brilliantly, the dress comes with an extra set of collar and cuffs. The dress has a trompe L'oeil affect with a bolero but this is actually attached. The top is an elegant black crepe with thick satin bow and the skirt is a hint of disco in jersey. Known for her modernist design this dress reinterpreted in the 80s looks as fresh now as it did in the 1950s and as it did in the 1920s. Size 6/8.

Fashion Misbehaviour

We know that you loved our previously posted 1970s leopard printed gown as much as we do and just wanted to blog about some very bad behaviour that we witnessed at yesterday's Roberto Cavalli for H & M sale on Fifth Avenue. High and low, vintage and new - we love a good mix. The pieces from Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Victor and Rolf for H & M are great fun and, of course, we love anything limited edition, but yesterday at H & M it was a very sad day. Atop the escalator Roberto Cavalli watched as men and women fought, grabbed and actually stampeded a woman. We overheard one man say, "Bi*ch I will hurt you". Fashion should be fun and we understand a fashion frenzy but yesterday was just madness and mayhem. So for a bit of civilized fun the next time you are craving an animal print pop into RARE and no one will get hurt.

Grrrrr!

There is something very satisfying about a leopard gown. Designers revisit and reinterpret it every season whether it is Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton inspired by a leopard print from Yves Saint Laurent or Dolce & Gabbana who have practically made a career from using spots. This is an Italian 1970s silk gown by La Mendola. The top is a silk jersey and the flowing skirt is silk chiffon. Very elegant and very sexy at the same time. Release your inner Dita Von Teese!
Size 4/6. SOLD

EVENINGWEAR Has Never Looked So Chic!

A glamorous, showstopping dress is an absolute necessity for the holiday and resort season. Maybe it is all of the parties, maybe it is the champagne, but we know that you are ready to slip into a festive frock and either one of these dresses by the master of extreme glamour, Loris Azzaro, would be the perfect choice. Decisions, decisions...

The first is a 1970s goddess style dress in apricot sorbet jersey with a ruched bodice. This dress would look beautiful with tawny skin and strappy sandals and loads of jewelry. So easy to pack that you can throw it in the suitcase and you will be gorgeous ready in less time then it takes a man to get in a tuxedo. Size 4/6.

Our other dress, also by Loris Azzaro, is a true red carpet movie star gown. Circa late 1970s it is retro glam with hints of 1930s Carole Lombard and Faye Dunaway from Chinatown but at the same time extremely modern. Slinky white jersey and with a diamanté belt and detailing around the neck. Super sexy! Size 4/6. SOLD

Ladies' Man

Herve Leger is the man all of the ladies go to when they want something straight up sexy. And the Herve Leger dressed woman is the lady all of the men run after. Why? Because a Leger dress makes you look and feel good. And the fabric and cut is actually a little forgiving: it holds everything in quite nicely and the great diagonal gold bands on this dress give a very flattering shape. This 1980s dress is a size Large, but we all know how small Leger actually runs. So, do not be frightened by the 'L' - it fits a contemporary size 6. SOLD
