Two Frothy Fifties Skirts

We love to give you what other vintage stores can not! It is always exciting for us to have hard to find and exclusive pieces from a designer like Fernanda Gattinoni. She did Audrey Hepburn's costumes for the movie 'War and Peace' in 1956 and from her Rome atelier she dressed Eva Peron, Ingrid Bergman, Anna Magnani and Jackie Kennedy.

These two very pretty skirts are Gattinoni Sport. Well, we are not sure how sporty they look, but they do look like fun, flirty skirts that would be perfect with ballet flats, boots or strappy sandals. The first skirt in velvet has hand painted scenes of medieval Italian military and the second skirt has watercolor flowers with crystal beading over it. And if this silhouette, full and mid calf, looks vaguely familiar it is because Miuccia Prada did a similar collection for her resort collection. SOLD (skirt above)

Frocked Up!

We could not have said it better than the original Belle De Jour. We have two great haute couture day dresses from Yves Saint Laurent. The first is a 1980s silk day-to-evening dress in a very beautiful and unusual shade of aubergine. It has a silk satin lining which really does feel sensual - you won't want anything coming between you and your YSL it feels so nice! The dress has a draped plunging neckline and a belt with a small wooden buckle. Size 4/6. SOLD

Our other Yves Saint Laurent haute couture piece is a beautiful early 1970s day dress. It is very elegant and bohemian and if you have ever had a fantasy of being Charlotte Rampling or Jane Birkin this is the dress that will you be able to do it in. Star Power

The 1979 Spring/Summer Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche collection was magical and full of dreamy clothes. Chloe Sevigny recently wore a one shoulder evening dress from this collection to the Golden Globes in black with white moons and stars. We have a beautiful daffodil yellow silk blouse from 1979 printed with stars and moons in shades of blue, green and purple. There is an attached flowing double scarf. What's Your Sign?

Coco Chanel was a famous Leo and incorporated lions into her designs and often on buttons. This is a great 1980s blouse in red silk with black lions all over with an attached scarf. Looks very sexy left unbuttoned with the scarf falling softly to the sides. Sleeve has a great french cuff with tiny red double C cufflinks. Size 42, but fits a contemporary size 4/6.

Paging Aphrodite

It is incredible how fresh and relevant vintage can be: the one shoulder dress is a definite trend for the red carpet and resort and here is a vintage early 1980s Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche gold and black python lamé ensemble. It is actually three pieces a top, skirt and scarf so you get three for the price of one! It is beautifully cut with a draped one shoulder top. We can never resist a brilliant piece by YSL. SOLD

Although Azzaro was known for his slinky and glamorous evening gowns he knew that his girls did have to get out of bed and get dressed during the day too. Steamy Elegance

We watched the Emmys and all of the girls were in yellow, shocking pink, royal purple, electric blue, violet and other vivid colors, but what we were craving was a really glamorous movie star dress. This strapless crystal pleated Loris Azzaro is all about steamy elegance. It is black but hardly basic. It molds to the body with a built in bra and a snug waist. The skirt falls with some fullness and movement from the pleats. And in a sweet with sizzle detail there is a diamanté heart at the waist and a bow in the back. Size 4. SOLD
