Jet Set Chic

Gorgeous! Manhattan, the North Shore of Long Island and the Hamptons all enjoyed perfect summer weather this past holiday weekend. It started RARE vintage thinking about caftans and Pucci. Is any summer wardrobe complete without a little vintage Pucci and a hippie deluxe caftan?

We are definitely partial to Pucci caftans but when we found this 1973 sun kissed gold linen Gucci we could not resist. Embroidered interlocking "G"s run down the side slits, along the plunging V neckline and the sleeves. Fits a size 4 to 8.

Our first Pucci is an unusual 1970s terry zip up dress. We believe that this piece was never worn. Classic Pucci seascape colors in swirling aqua, green and deep lavender on a white background. Vintage size 12 fits a modern size 6/8.

Our next Pucci is a crisp cotton ensemble in brilliant blue, greens and purple on a white background. The cotton voile blouse and slightly A Line skirt are perfect for a Friday that starts in the city and ends in Sag Harbor. The blouse is a vintage size 14 (fits a modern size 6/8 and the skirt is a vintage size 12 (fits a modern size 6).

Gild the Lillie

The one-shoulder dress has had the flashbulbs popping on the red carpet this season. This beautiful one-shoulder 1970s Lillie Rubin dress with ruffles edged in gold is a little bit disco and a little bit rock and roll. Pretty in Pinks

It does not get any prettier than this 1960s gown from Count Ferdinando Sarmi. This is a gown meant for languid breezes or Audrey Hepburn drama: think about Givenchy's costume from 'Funny Face' when she comes practically floating down the stairs in Paris as her dress billows around her.

RARE vintage thinks every girl needs at least one Audrey Hepburn moment in their lives. Our Sarmi in watercolor silk chiffon has a beautifully draped bodice and a pale pink sash that ties around the waist. The skirt is a straight coulmn with flowing panels that open in the middle and continue all the way around the back of the dress. So, if you see a staircase, definitely take it! Size 6.

The Floaty Boho Gown

We love a flowing 1970s gown for the summer and this one by Ted Lapidus haute couture has us dreaming of bronzed skin, gold sandals and limoncello in Porto Cervo. The palest shades of pink, lavendar and blue are set off beautifully by flecks of silver. Although there is quite a bit of fabric, the chiffon stays close to the body for a sexy and romantic look. Wonder Woman and a Secret Identity!

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy is just a few days away and RARE vintage has been busy helping Gotham city prepare for the most anticipated fashion night of the year. Our apologies for being absent from the blog but we think that you will be very pleased to see all of the goodies we will be posting for your vintage fashion viewing pleasure! Stay tuned...

We will leave you with a Chanel haute couture dress from the early 1980s that is perfect for a modern day Wonder Woman. Like Wonder Woman's costume our Chanel gown has an organza bustier. Okay, Wonder Woman's costume was more like spandex but this is haute couture after all! The deep navy skirt molds to the body and ends in a train. The line of the gown is very sleek, very sexy. The skill of the haute couture is evident in the details: a row of seams in the back allows the dress to flow to an extraordinary train with a glimpse of ruffled organza petticoats underneath. This is the most gorgeous dress and we wish everyone could have it. But then it would not be RARE vintage and it would not be couture. Cape optional!
