Simply Beautiful!

We thought that Angelina looked beautiful in her Hermes dress from RARE vintage at last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards! Lush and romantic, she was glamorous and we loved the way she wore it with simple gold hoops. It was the dress of the night!

Timeless...

You can't keep a good shirt-style wrap dress down. It is always being revived and reinterpreted. Although this late 1970s Halston dress sold before we were able to post it on the blog , we thought that our readers would enjoy seeing the perfect wrap dress and the chicest, the easiest piece to wear anywhere for anything! And with the very exciting revival of the house of Halston it is going to be that much more fun finding an original Halston.

RARE vintage in US magazine!

Here is Debra Messing looking red hot in the red carpet pages of this week's US magazine. Maybe we're partial but we think that she has the best dress!

Grand Master Flash

Yesterday was the Versace couture show in Paris and while the show itself was not a major extravaganza the dresses were extravagant. Subtle may not be the first thing that comes to mind with Versace but Gianni did have his quieter moments - with a playful twist. Our  little black dress is Gianni Versace couture ca. 1992. From the front it appears to be a simple covered-up sheath but in complete contrast, the back deeply plunges giving the one you love something to look at and then some when you turn around.

A Great Find

This is an early 1980s Diane Fres limited edition dress. We know that our RARE blog readers are very knowledgeable and fashionable and will recognize two of the big trends of the season: the fluid one shoulder dress. The waist is defined by a soft gathering through the middle. The fabric is very sumptuous in rich berry hues and has almost a leopard print. It is a beautiful dress for the red carpet or even dinner out with a pair of flat sandals.

Sexy Bohemian and Classic

Mary McFadden's designs can sometimes have a lot of everything going on but when she is good, she is very, very good. Here are two striking examples of her at her best. The first is a beautiful robin's egg blue marii pleated gown with a slightly plunging jeweled v neckline. The color is stronger in the photograph then it actually is. Dress would be perfect with simple flat gold sandals. Beauty and comfort: it is possible! SOLD

Debra looked elegant and sexy-glamorous in a dress that showed off her great waist and had a skirt with some volume - one of the big trends in fashion right now. Get Your Halston On!

We love a great slinky 1970s Halston and here is a beautiful, precisely cut evening gown in black jersey with an elasticized waist from 1976. There is a deep asymmetrical cut in the front top of the dress and the same deep cut in the back but on the opposite side. Whoa!!!!

This dress is from Jean Paul Gaultier's second collection for Hermes in the fall of 2004. It is an extraordinary gown and although it is of a more recent vintage it is special enough to become an instant collector's piece. Made of yards of fluttering silk chiffon in bronze and pale gold printed with a fantasy image of a woman riding a unicorn. Just as the Unicorn said to Alice in Through the Looking-Glass

"Well, now that we have seen each other, " said the Unicorn, "if you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you."
