Well, a girl can dream... and that is exactly what John Galliano has always done: create clothes so fantastic that they set you dreaming about possessing them and who you might be transformed into when you slip them on. Early Galliano is a particular favorite and it was very exciting to find this beautiful, fun, sexy pink bias cut dress from 1995 with a ruffled cut all the way up the leg - and we mean all the way up! Interior seaming is lined in a pale chartreuse. Dress ends in a flowing train for extra glamor.

RARE vintage Girls

It was a busy and fun week in Los Angeles preparing for all of the awards season fashion mayhem and we were really pleased to see three women looking gorgeous, happy and beautiful in their dresses from RARE vintage.

Kate Beckinsale always makes style news and last night in her vintage Yves Saint Laurent haute couture dress from RARE vintage she was high Hollywood glamor. We are certain every head in the room turned when she entered in the gently ruched strapless black gown with revealing chiffon skirt and black silk ribbon detail.

Angie Harmon blossomed in our recently posted 1980s vibrantly colored and flower bedecked Oscar de la Renta at the Kara Ross NY Oscar Collection party.

Paula Patton looked uber flirtateous in our black and white polka dot Valentino from the 1980s to wear to the First Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon. We loved the white belt she chose to wear with it as well. It is all about taking something and making it your own.

Summer of Love

In an earlier post we showed a 1960s emerald silk velvet dress with beading by Gigliola Curiel that is the epitome of cocktail glamor dressing by an Italian designer. Curiel is an haute couture family business that was started by Gigliola and continues by her daughter Raffaella and her grand daughter Gigliola.

Here is a 1980s Raffaella Curiel strapless dress with a fitted gathered bodice and skirt that has the easiness of a sarong but at the same time is sophisticated enough for a grand evening out. And we are totally in love with the luxurious hippie vibe in the richly colored fabric.

White Hot

The Academy Awards are this Sunday and we have packed our red carpet and party dresses and have flown them out to Los Angeles for the week. We are at the Chateau Marmont where it feels a bit like being at Norma Desmonds and nothing has changed.

We thought since we have been gone for so long we would start with two 1990s Herve Leger dresses which everyone always loves. These two Leger dresses are, of course, extremely sexy but in crisp white they look particularly fresh and modern. We are in love with the black and white geometric beading running up the front of one dress that continues up the straps. The other dress has a bit of shine with very subtle white on white beading at the hem. We have

a feeling that these will not last long...

Haute Surfer

Do you remember this Chanel jacket? It was on the cover of Vogue in 1991. They also showed it in blue and in red. The Costume Institute has the same jacket in white but we think color is the way to go. Inspired by a neoprene wetsuit, Karl Lagerfeld references classic Chanel elements: the contrasting grosgrain ribbon and the double C logo instead of on a button adorns a zipper toggle. A Floral Frock

We don't see prints often enough but for this Spring flowers are popping up in most of the major collections. Women may wonder how to wear all of these blooms but keeping it simple is the key to looking fresh and pretty. Get your early spring flowers with this 1980s Oscar De La Renta with a plunging back and sequin detail. Gres is the new black

Last night was the opening of the really beautiful Madame Gres exhibit at the Museum of FIT. There are stunning hand pleated goddess gowns and a particular favorite was the 1972 navy silk jersey dress that had belonged to Mica Ertegun. We definitely recommend a trip to FIT and the accompanying book to the exhibit. We also recommend another 1970s Madame Gres dress that we have at RARE vintage. The deceptively simple sheath is a pristine example of Gres' technique and imagination. Made of bands of heavy crepe pieced together and ending in a line of cutouts baring the side of the body. Very sexy. Very Gres. Very RARE. Size 4/6.
