Merry Christmas from RARE vintage Bazaar Dec 1968

A very Merry Christmas from RARE vintage and from the pages of the December 1968 Harper's Bazaar!!

I have been a lucky man.  To feel the intimacy of brothers is a marvelous thing.  To feel the love of people whom we love is a fire that feeds our life.  But to feel the affection that comes across from those whom we do not know, who are watching over our dream and solitude, over our dangers and weaknesses - that is something still greater and more beautiful because it widens our boundaries of our being, and unites all living things.  PABLO NERUDA

Oscar de la Renta January 1969

Jacqueline Kennedy famously wore a Halston backwards because Halston's dresses which, looked very simple, could actually be quite complicated to put on.

Now, I thought that there was nothing challenging about this ruffled Oscar de la Renta dress.  Just a great dress, beautifully made, each ruffle edged in a thin strip of horsehair, from the 1980s. Wrong!  And wrong again!  So here I sit with the proverbial egg on my face and having to eat crow!  Two cliches in a row!  How frustrated would writing my teacher at Bard be reading this?!

It is Oscar de la Renta but it is actually a very rare early example of Oscar de la Renta that was featured in Bazaar in January 1969.

We also had the dress on the mannequin backwards!  Seeing the photo, I instantly realized, how great it looks worn properly with a plunging front.  The dress is still available by the way!
Here is the description from Bazaar:

The Spanish ruffle; the International plunge.  Castanet brilliance of silk organza in reds, purples, blues. Flutter lighter than air.  In Gourdon fabric.

And here is the dress at RARE on the mannequin backwards.  Dar!

December Bazaar Personal Style Issue

The December issue of Bazaar celebrates personal style. Two great fashionable women, Anne Hathaway and Zoe Kravitz are featured wearing dresses from RARE vintage. Anne Hathaway is wearing a fantastic and fun Jean-Louis Scherrer couture cocktail dress from the 1980s and Zoe Kravitz is wearing a slinky Givenchy halterneck dress from the 1970s.

Vintage is always a personal choice. You are not bound by the trends of the season, you just find a piece that you love, that no one else will have and you know that everyone will desperately want!

RARE vintage Debuts in Bazaar October Issue

Translating a piece of fashion history into something modern and fresh is what wearing vintage is all about. This is illuminated in the October issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine with RARE vintage's 1988 Moschino safety pins dress worn in a completely new way as styled by Melanie Ward. Titled 'Cutting-Edge Cool' the Moschino dress has been tucked into leather jodpurs by Riccardo Tischi of Givenchy and is worn with a fur shrug by Malo pulled over it. It looks completely new and totally unique. Size 6.
