Capes are for L♡VERS

Capes are for lovers because cape lovers love a good snuggle.  That is a lot of love in that last sentence!  Capes are cozy and they are also cool.  Check out a few fabulous street style photos before seeing our two incredible capes:

Our first cape is very Phoebe Philo for Celine but in fact is a Madame Gres cape.  Madame Gres adored volume but it is a volume that is light and when worn there is the surprise of the gorgeous chevron interior.

Our second cape is a delightful Pauline Trigere with a wonderful peek of houndstooth check.  I love that both of these capes have a somewhat simple exterior and then a whimsical interior.  It's like icing on the cape!

Boardwalk Empire

This is a face a mother could love:

And this is the face of the mother:

So dowdy don't you think?!  Poor thing!  Oh if they only had used eye cream back in those days!☺  Well, she is nine whole years older then him.

I have been thoroughly enjoying everything about Boardwalk Empire: the costumes, the actors with such perfect faces for the period, the sets - I don't know if you have been to any of those huge, surely haunted and beautiful old buildings that are empty now along the New Jersey shore, and of course, the amazingly talented Steve Buscemi (can anyone say Golden Globe?)  So with the sadness of the season being over and the expectation for next  I thought I would post this Pauline Trigere which was inspired by a flapper's dress.  You know people will be having Boardwalk Empire themed parties and here is the perfect dress to wear.

The dress is made from black chiffon and strips of pink lamé velvet.  The waist is slightly dropped.  It is actually perfect for a holiday party and you can take it out again for season two of Boardwalk Empire!

Soft and Floaty

Prints are finally a return trend for Spring 2010.  I think that everyone was gently testing the water with brightly colored, whimsically put together necklaces against a solid shirt or dress and now is ready to embrace a little or a lot of print back into their lives.

I love a print that is sheer, light and floaty like this flowy boho dress from Pauline Trigere. Miss Trigere must have been spending a lot of time in her garden at her house La Tortue when she designed this because boho is not one of the first words that comes to mind when thinking about her designs.  I suspect a secret, soft, flirty side under her apparently tough exterior.

The print is a beautiful subtle paisley.

The sleeves are embellished with a scattering of diamanté.  Brilliant!  So if you have a secret, or not so secret, soft, flirty side this is the perfect choice for spring!  Hmmm... just one more peek at Jesus Luz...

All Summer Long

We heard a great story about Pauline Trigere from one of our clients who had a large collection of Trigere: She was very excited to be seated next to Miss Trigere at a lunch and happily told her how much she liked her clothing and how extensive her collection was. Pauline Trigere simply looked at her and said, "then why aren't you wearing any?" and turned away.

She may not have had a warm and fuzzy personality but her clothes were timeless and elegant. Although she was born in France, she moved to new York in 1937 and became a symbol of the American fashion industry. RARE vintage has a focus on European designers but it is always a pleasure when we can find you a great piece of American fashion history right here in New York, the fashion capital of the United States!

We love this 1970s strapless colorful pink flower print Pauline Trigere dress for summer at home entertaining, for cocktails on the beach, for just about anything really. It is fun, effortless, comfortable and very sophisticated. Throw on a great pair of flat sandals, pull your hair in a ponytail, a pink lipstick and you are good to go.
