Shockingly Short: Marco Zanini Out at Schiaparelli

Well, truthfully, I don't know if it is so shocking that Marco Zanini is out at maison Schiaparelli but I am a little sad that he was not given more time to awaken a sleeping beauty.  Schiaparelli had slumbered for nearly 59 years  before Zanini showed his debut collection for the house and it has to be expected that it would take a little time and perhaps a few espressos before the house was up and running and finding its way in a new century.  But in this new century, everything is now!  Right now!

I think given a little time, Zanini could have been a good fit - there was perhaps too much nostalgia for the 'hard chic' of Elsa Schiaparelli's 1930s but there were also some beautiful moments that showed promise...

a few of my favorites - I loved the accessories...

Spring 2014:

Best dress - there should have been more like this (the price points were very expensive - even for couture).   It looks modern, fresh and yet still within the codes of the house and soooo fabulous - love the cuffs on each arm, the pockets, the flip flops...

Fall 2014:

I absolutely loved this rat infested gown and the cropped 'monkey fur style' bolero:

Haute couture is for dreamers, fast fashion is for realists and the twain should never meet.  The fashion world needs a place for dreamers to dream and I am dreaming of rats on silk and a gilded ring in the shape of a Venus the fly trap...

Schiaparelli Fall 2014 Couture: That Rat!

If money were no object, I know EXACTLY what I would wear to next year's Met Gala: Look 16 from Marco Zanini for Schiaparelli

It is amusing and different and a nice nod to Elsa Schiaparelli with the monkey fur bolero and the rats and squirrels gown.

I thought the whole collection was moving in a good direction and there were some beautiful pieces, like this black beaded dress (minus the fur)

and this sweater is amazing

these greens are pretty fab and especially with the leopard booties, the fur sleeves might be a tad too, too...

for a serious femme fatale moment and I love the hat!

and I kind of love these two gowns too and the crocheted beanie/snood is super wearable

Schiaparelli Spring 2014 Haute Couture

Here it is!  It looks a little uneven and not entirely successful.  Schiaparelli's shadow seems to intimidate those who decide to step into her monkey fur clad booties.  I think Zanini could be the one but the House of Schiaparelli needs to keep a memory of the past with eyes on the future...

Schiaparelli Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2014

This looks very 80s Gigli or Japanese:

Schiaparelli is so known and admired for her neat tailored jackets, I think this was an area of missed opportunity.

Look at these two beauties... still so modern after 76 years...

But these details are all pretty fab:

I think Zanini just needs time to figure it out...

Good Morning Schiaparelli!

I am excited to wake up this morning to Marco Zanini's debut show for Schiaparelli haute couture!  So far this is all I have seen and so far, so good!  I will post more photos as they become available...

Whimsical fabric:

Lesage embroidered pocket detail.  Beautiful!
