The Goddess

The brilliant Yves Saint Laurent's vision of the Goddess gown is as timeless and classic as any chiton that you will see in the Greek and Roman Galleries at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Of course, while this densely pleated gown alludes to the past it is a thoroughly cool modern interpretation.

1970s Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture silk jersey densely pleated gown. Labeled Yves Saint Laurent. Numbered 31981. Size 6.

It's an Haute Couture Rampage! (more from Nan Kempner)

We have so many goodies for our RARE vintage readers that we did not even quite realize just how good some of the goodies are! We promised you more from style icon Nan Kempner's personal wardrobe and here is a divinely beautiful Yves Saint Laurent black silk chiffon haute couture gown with large silk ribbon that sits seductively below the behind. The lower part of the dress ends in a gauzy transparency. Nan Kempner's style has been celebrated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the de Young Museum and at the Fondation Pierre Bergé Yves Saint Laurent. In fact, Yves Saint Laurent called Nan Kempner, "la plus chic du monde"!

If this dress looks familiar it is because Kate Beckinsale wore this in February to the De Grisogno Domino Party. So, if you are feeling a bit like a fashion icon, like Nan Kempner, and as hot as Kate Beckinsale, here is the perfect opportunity! Size 4.

Purple Haze

To own a piece of Yves Saint Laurent haute couture from the late 1970s would certainly be on any girl's wish list. The decadence of the haut monde at the time is an irresistible part of the Saint Laurent lore: Loulou de la Falaise, Betty Catroux, Paloma Picasso, and Bianca Jagger appeared carefree, sexy and glamorous in Paris and Marrakech dressed in Yves Saint Laurent.

Simple and beautifully designed this is a draped wrap skirt in a very luxurious wool crepe in a deep shade of purple. The goddess style is timeless and very prevalent for spring and as interpreted by Mr. Saint Laurent it is powerful and provocative. Size 4.

Frocked Up!

"When you put something on from Yves Saint Laurent's couture, there is an immediate sensual experience: everything, no matter what it's made of, is always lined in silk satin. He wants to spoil women, to envelop them in the pleasure of his clothes." Catherine Deneuve

We could not have said it better than the original Belle De Jour. We have two great haute couture day dresses from Yves Saint Laurent. The first is a 1980s silk day-to-evening dress in a very beautiful and unusual shade of aubergine. It has a silk satin lining which really does feel sensual - you won't want anything coming between you and your YSL it feels so nice! The dress has a draped plunging neckline and a belt with a small wooden buckle. Size 4/6. SOLD

Our other Yves Saint Laurent haute couture piece is a beautiful early 1970s day dress. It is very elegant and bohemian and if you have ever had a fantasy of being Charlotte Rampling or Jane Birkin this is the dress that will you be able to do it in. The print is a sweet but almost abstract flower print. Size 4. SOLD
