Just in: French Chic and YSL

One of my favorite new pieces for RARE vintage is a little black skirt fully scattered with black sequins  with a black silk ribbon around the waist and it is the epitome of French chic by the Master of French chic: Yves Saint Laurent.

Just in:

To wear right now: a pair of sheer black stockings and a bitchy stiletto.  Very Carine Roitfeld:

Carine Roitfeld perfect in sheer black stockings

or to wear for the summer: a little tank and a flat sandal.

C'est parfait!

Minnie Mouse Goes to Paris Fashion Week

Minnie Mouse has gone to Paris Fashion Week and Barneys has the film.  Minnie met up with some of the biggest names in fashion: Carine Roitfeld, Alber Elbaz, Anna dello Russo, Naomi Cambell...  I am just wondering what is Barneys trying to say?  That fashion can be a little cartoonish??  Well, maybe sometimes : )  Enjoy!  You can see the film at Barneys New York Madison Avenue store through the holidays.

Where Carine Roitfeld Shops in NY: RARE vintage

Carine Roitfeld, the former Editor of French Vogue, proud new Grandma to Romy and Founder and Editor to just recently published, CR Fashion Book, gave a nice shout out to RARE vintage in an interview with L'Officiel.

A day in New York for Carine includes a trip to Neue Galerie, a visit to RARE vintage and a pasta at Sant Ambroeus (which sounds like a very perfect day to me too!).

If you have not seen CR Fashion Book yet, it is a refreshingly modern and different look at fashion.  And there are some great articles: an ode to the great Elsa Peretti, an article, Quand les Femmes Étaient Francais, by Karl Lagerfeld and a lovely fantasy on vintage by Kirsten Dunst with drawings of a 1939 Balenciaga dress, a 1934 Lanvin by Karin Kilimnik.  FYI: It is not easy to find as it has been selling out everywhere.

Carine Roitfeld at Cannes in RARE vintage!

Looking like the style icon that she is, Carine Roitfeld looked dazzling in her 1977 Norma Kamali sequin dress from RARE vintage at the de Grisogono party during the Cannes film festival!

I love this dress and we had literally just gotten it in when it swept out the door to its new fabulous future with Carine!

I think its original owner will be thrilled to know that the dress still has a good party in it!

Obsessing on Gloves

My grandmother had a glove drawer and I realize that little girls now, most likely will not grow up with mothers or grandmothers with glove drawers.  I happen to have a drawer of vintage gloves.  I don't wear them so much but I can not part with them because they are just too beautiful.  My daughter loves to wear them for playing dress up.  And I always think that one day, I will  wear a pair.

But that has all changed!  Watching the Super Bowl I saw

and then at the amfAR Gala at Cipriani, I noticed

and I thought

that!  I am breaking the gloves out of the glove drawer!  I hope you will too!  Here are three amazing pairs of gloves that we have at RARE vintage.  The first two are by our sweetheart, Yves Saint Laurent.

YSL lace embellished gloves:

YSL jeweled gloves:

and the last pair are elegant and chic in suede with tiny suede covered buttons running the length of the gloves.

Addicted to LOVE

I LOVE this Saint Laurent dress on Carine Roitfeld (dress from RARE vintage :) AND don't you just love it with the boots - so perfect!

Since I have opened RARE vintage, I have come to realize that there were a lot of women in love with Yves Saint Laurent and how hard it is for them to part with their YSL.

I could feel the love when I went to see a collection of YSL in New York recently. After all, only a woman who really loved Saint Laurent would take an extra bedroom and turn it into a walk in closet for her collection of Yves Saint Laurent.  (a woman after my own heart!)  And I mean Saint Laurent.  Period.  Nobody but YSL.  I have already posted two gowns from her collection.  Here are two more that are hard not to LOVE...

Like the lime and the plum gowns I recently posted, I guess she could not decide which one she loved more - so she bought them both!

1970s Yves Saint Laurent rive gauche crushed velvet wrap gowns available in black and red.
Size 6.

Carine Roitfeld in a Halston from RARE vintage in October W Magazine!

From W Magazine:

Five months after leaving her post as editor-in-chief of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld made her triumphant return to Paris Couture Week - and W's cameras went along for the ride.  Director Loic Prigent followed the charming editrix for seven more days to more then 20 fashion shows, fittings with couturiers from Jean Paul Gaultier to the reclusive Azzedine Alaia, and finally, a two day photo shoot with the photographer Paolo Roversi.  "Following Carine as a client was quite intense," says Prigent.  "We had to run from one designer to another, sometimes from morning until late at night.  She's drop-dead serious about fashion."

And boys and girls so are we at RARE vintage:  Drop-dead serious.  Carine Roitfeld in a sparkling gold 1975 Halston from RARE vintage in the October W magazine (and with Karl!).

Corine Roitfeld Front Row at Chanel Couture in RARE vintage!

In 1973 American fashion designers stormed a runway in Versailles for a couture smackdown with Hubert de Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent , Pierre Cardin, Ungaro, Marc Bohan for Christian Dior.  Princess Grace attended in a tiara.  Liza Minelli wore a fedora.

In 1975 Halston designed a tissue lamé sparkly gold wrap dress.  And yesterday Carine Roitfeld wore the same 1975 Halston from RARE vintage to the Chanel haute couture show in Paris at the Grand Palais.  We are definitely Team Halston/Roitfeld!

The Couture Devil is in the Details

Devilishly difficult: between eighteen and twenty tons of cast iron looms are required to produce lace weighing approximately twenty grams per meter.  It must be a devil of a job to watch over 5,376 bobbins working simultaneously on the loom.

"The devil made me do it": what you say your when your husband asks you just how much that couture dress was.  But I and RARE vintage want to play the devil's advocate: Tell your husband it is vintage and cost a fraction of the original price.  "Oh to hell with it, you look incredible" your husband might say in that case.

And here, my vintage friends, is a bit of heaven: Valentino haute couture in detail.  A match made in heaven.  I know you will remember that Carine Roitfeld wore this recently to a dinner honoring Mario Testino and it was like manna from heaven.  A perfect fit: so divine.

Fun Fact:  Marescot is the one and only producer of lace for the haute couture.

Please note this dress is no longer available.
