The Hot Young Director: Victoria Mahoney

Tonight I hope you will be watching the 2011 Academy Awards in your pajamas like me.  There is nothing better then watching the spectacle of everyone bedecked, bejeweled and slightly bewildered by the questions of Ryan Seacrest then in your pajamas with a very luxe buffet and champagne.

RARE vintage has been thrilled to have dressed tonight's host Anne Hathaway numerous times and other beautiful and stylish actresses for award shows but this was our first time dressing a hot and upcoming young director, Victoria Mahoney for the Berlin Film Festival.  And when we say hot we mean hot!  Just take a look at the photos.  

Victoria wrote, directed and produced 'Yelling to the Sky' which is her debut feature film.  She was selected by Filmmaker Magazine for its 2010 '25 New Faces of Independent Film' and by Elle Magazine in its annual Women in Hollywood Power List Issue (which I and RARE vintage were listed in too!)

'Yelling to the Sky' stars Zoe Kravitz (whom is lovely and has also worn pieces by RARE vintage - it is a small world!), Jason Clarke (Public Enemies), Antonique Smith (Notorious), Tim Blake Nelson (Syriana) and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious).

So let's give a special shout out to Victoria and look forward to seeing her at next year's Academy Awards!

Zoe Kravitz in RARE vintage at Glamour's 2009 Women of the Year Awards!

Zoe Kravitz rocked her Herve Leger couture bandage dress with a blue leather coat, red lips and her hair in a simple twist at Glamour's 2009 Women of the Year Awards.  With the leather jacket and the black tights I am even thinking that the Leger could be a great day look too. Hmmm.... or maybe it is just such a great outfit, I would want to wear it every day!

December Bazaar Personal Style Issue

The December issue of Bazaar celebrates personal style. Two great fashionable women, Anne Hathaway and Zoe Kravitz are featured wearing dresses from RARE vintage. Anne Hathaway is wearing a fantastic and fun Jean-Louis Scherrer couture cocktail dress from the 1980s and Zoe Kravitz is wearing a slinky Givenchy halterneck dress from the 1970s.

Vintage is always a personal choice. You are not bound by the trends of the season, you just find a piece that you love, that no one else will have and you know that everyone will desperately want!

A RARE Inspiration

As the summer comes to a close and our thoughts turn to a certain Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche winter caftan in hunter green (coming soon) we think about what an amazing inspiration vintage can be. It is all about reinvention.   A 1980s silhouette can become something fresh and modern with a new way of wearing it.  Would we recommend crocodile boots and jeans with your vintage from the 1980s?  Absolutely not!  No one wants to look like they are an extra from the television show Dallas!  RARE vintage clients are a flash forward not a flashback.

Zoe Kravitz was a recent fashion do and her age appropriate dress was particularly pointed out. Lenny Kravitz's and Lisa Bonet's daughter, Zoe Kravitz, has been out and about Manhattan in dresses from RARE vintage and was listed on Fashion Week Daily's best dressed list in vintage Givenchy haute couture. Maybe you can please all of the people all of the time!
