Who, What, Wear Wednesday!

Who, What, Wear Wednesday is here!  Stylish inspiration from stylish girls for our RARE vintage blog readers!

We have had so many wonderfully stylish women who shop at RARE vintage and in honor of celebrating our 5th year anniversary, I thought it would be fun to have a look back at what really stylish women have worn from RARE vintage.

Gaga.  Lady Gaga.  A dream of fantasy, music, culture and massive talent.  An Icon.  Lady Gaga in Norma Kamali.  Lady Gaga in Valentino Couture.  Lady Gaga in Givenchy Couture.  All from RARE vintage.

A look back at Lady Gaga dressed by RARE vintage...

And Madonna Scores!

A touchdown in Givenchy!  (And so did the Giants!  Not in Givenchy of course but they scored some major touchdowns.  Sorry Gisele.)  What a performance!  What a show!  I love that the Super Bowl probably had a whole new audience tuning in last night: the fashion crowd.  Madonna sang "Vogue", "Like a Prayer", "Open Your Heart" and her new single,  "Give Me All Your Luvin".

Madona's costumes by Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy Haute Couture and stylist and costume designer, B. Akerlund were Gianni Versace/Clepoatra-esque.  I love that Tisci said in a statement, "People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna."

Madonna's gold cape was hand embroidered with gold metal, studs, crystals and lined in leopard print chiffon.  The mini dress was in silk cady with a leopard print cape in silk charmeuse which was also hand embroidered.  The greece inspired belt was in python with gold studs and the flaps were removable.  (Remember the boys from LMFAO ripped them off)  And she wore napa leather gloves.  I loved the boots too.

It all makes you want to rush out and go to the gym (damn Madonna looked smoking hot!), take a dance class and order a piece from the Spring 2012 Givenchy Couture collection doesn't it?!

And PS: Don't you think Madonna has moves better then Jagger?!

"Tears of an Angel" Givenchy Haute Couture

The photos that I would like to show here, I can not because for some reason no one has published detail photos as of yet.  And the ten pieces Ricardo Tisci showed for Givenchy are all about the details.  Here is a recap from Hamish Bowles:

"Crystal drops with a techno reflective treatment (whose scattered pattern over the fragile tulle dress was based on a "map" of the nodules of ostrich skin) subtly transformed in different lights; Tisci likened the effect to "tears of angels".  Excuse me whilst I go weep because it sounds so beautiful I wish I could order the dress right now but I know I can not.

"The ankle straps to accompany this piece were fashioned from the pale wax flowers garlanding nineteenth century devotional pictures that Tisci sourced from antique examples (each pair will be unique."  Excuse me while I go weep some more...

And his beloved fringe fell in a golden waterfall of fine chains, each less than a millimeter wide; even the clutch purses were fringed to the floor."  weeping has officially turned to sobs...

Alexandra: The Coolest Bride on the Earth!

Now, that is a big statement to make but all brides want to make a statement on their wedding day.  Some do it in a puffy meringue, some are sleek and simple like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, some wear pants like Bianca Jagger and and then there is the one girl who wore 1967 Givenchy haute couture that had previously belonged to Nan Kempner.  Who is this incredible creature who chose not to wear the puffy meringue and went with something "vintage" instead of merely old? Who chose a dress that was as stunning from the front as from the back.  Who wore OMG! Givenchy haute couture from the 1960s??!!   We don't know about you but that definitetely beats Vera Wang any day in our book.

Alexandra is RARE vintage's first 'La Muse: Women of Incredible Style' that we will be putting on the blog once a month.   We were as excited as she was when she came in and tried on the Givenchy.  I have mentioned before that I am a firm believer that vintage waits for just the right person and we think that Nan Kempner would have been as thrilled as we were to see her dress looking so spectacular, so right, so beautiful, so amazing on Alexandra.

Congratulations to Alexandra and thank you for sharing your photos with us!!!!
