The Gypsy in His Soul

We love when we find a piece that is representational of a designer's oeuvre. This beautiful one-shoulder gown from Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche combines a striking use of color: a bright peony pink, sky blue and black. We saw an interview from the 1960s with Yves Saint Laurent and he was asked if he was not a designer, what he would like to be and he said, a hippie. He was a French designer with the soul of a hippie.

He rejected what society thought haute couture should be and introduced luxe crocodile motorcycle jackets and Russian peasant dresses in the most expensive materials into a world of pretty afternoon dresses. This dress is a little bit French, a little bit gypsy and a little bit hippie just like Mr. Saint Laurent himself.

1970s Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Gown. Size 8.

Please note that there is some slight fading to the skirt but it is slight and very wearable.
