My new style icon is Madame Bonnardel. Born Madeleine de Montgomery. I could not find out very much about her so if anyone knows more, please let me know. My fascination started with this painting:
Madame Bonnardel by Federico Beltan-Masses |
How amazing is that portrait? The dress, the gloves, the jewels, the gaze, Venice! Although I would have preferred it without the distraction of the second woman in the background... We should all have a painting like this of ourselves don't you think?!
Glamorous and confident in a coat by Paquin and a hat by Reboux, 1932.

With her hair lacquered white:

and incredibly this Chanel
in the collection of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art belonged to Mme. Bonnardel. Who knew? She wore it Lady Mendl, Elsie de Wolfe, seventy-fifth birthday party in 1939.
So, now do you have a new style icon too?!
