YSL and Just a Dusting of Scott Barnes Body Bling

What do you need to wear with this drop-dead beautiful purple silk cloqué Yves Saint Laurent rive gauche one shoulder dress? Just a dusting of sun kissed glow courtesy of Body Bling by Scott Barnes (and he knows his body bling because he is Jennifer Lopez's makeup artist - need I say more) on your bare shoulder.

What you can not see from the photograph is how incredibly beautiful the fabric is on this dress.  The color is softer then in the photo and it has a slight texture and is very luxurious, very couture.

Well, you will need to wear some shoes too...  I am loving these vampy Tabitha Simmons corset laced lovelies.  To be found at Barneys but my size is gone:)

"Saint Laurent rive gauche La Révolution de la Mode" opened in Paris this week in the galleries of the Fondacion Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent.

Saint Laurent wanted his  new ready-to-wear line to be sold where young people were, somewhere on the Left Bank.  The name would be Yves Saint Laurent rive gauche.  The boutique was to stay open until midnight as the stores in California did at the time.  The original interior was designed by Isabelle Hebey and opened in 1966 on rue de Tournon.  The boutique had a life size portrait of Yves Saint Laurent painted by Eduardo Arroyo, one of the founders of the figuration narrative movement who had fled Fascist Spain in 1958.  There were lamps by Isamu Noguchi and sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle in the boutique's courtyard.

In 1971 Saint Laurent decided to stop producing haute couture which he felt was only for very rich women to focus on the ready-to-wear which was "for the young or the young at heart".  Brigitte Bardot said to dress in couture was "Ca fait mémé" (That's for grannies).  But this was, thankfully short lived - can you imagine?!  and he did in fact go on to produce an haute couture collection in January 1972.


Saint Laurent loved a good transparent dress and so do we at RARE vintage.  Here is a fluttering, gossamer light black and white transparent dress with sash wrapped waist from Yves Saint Laurent rive gauche.  

Transparent dresses were a big trend this season at Vuitton, Givenchy and Stella McCartney.  Will you wear it with just a pair of big knickers underneath and very little else.  Kate Moss would...

The YSL Peasant Blouse

Coco Chanel was not only the designer to take a staple of the working persons wardrobe and turn it into a luxury item. Yves Saint Laurent took the ruffled peasant blouse and made us all want to herd sheep, milk cows and count our chickens. Okay, well, maybe not literally. Probably more like have a wonderful sheep milks cheese, followed by an espresso with a little warm milk on the side and , if anything, a palais de poulet for some lovely colored araucana eggs. But, anyway, if you are feeling a little Marie Antoinette at the Petit Trianon, we would recommend a 1975 Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche dotted chiffon peasant blouse with batwing sleeves to help get the mood started.

A Parisian Caper

RARE vintage is very excited to have found this particular deep red cape by Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche with oversized pom-poms. It is not too dramatic - just beautiful and romantic. There is a softly draped, gently ruffled collar. And, we confess, that we ADORE the big pom-poms.
