I am sure you know (and if not, where have you been ragazzi??) that I have been extremely fortunate to have had an unrivaled collection of Valentino Couture at RARE vintage. We have had dresses spanning nearly every decade of Valentino's career - the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Our dresses have been bought and worn by our clients to dinners with Mr. Valentino and at award shows by celebrities. If I were you, I would definitely go SEE:
Valentino: Master of Couture at Somerset House in London.
You are walking down a red carpeted runway nearly 52 meters long. On either side of the runway are rows of pale colored Louis XV chairs. Some have names pinned to them: Iman, Twiggy, La Princesse de Bulgarie... On either side of the long runway are mannequins, some sitting, some standing but all wearing the most beautiful haute couture by the master of couture, Valentino.
You will see beauty. You will see films that capture the hours and hours of handwork that go into the making of a Valentino haute couture dress. You will see notes to Valentino from Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld... You will see invitations printed on thick stock to the Valentino couture shows. You will see Jacqueline Kennedy's 1968 white collection wedding dress to Aristotle Onassis. You will see Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece's 1995 wedding dress which took twenty-five seamstresses to make. You will see Julia Robert's black and white 1992 gown which she famously wore to the 2001 Academy Awards.
You will see 130 spectacular haute couture Valentino outfits.
