NYFW Bitter Cold Street Style 2

When the temperature is hovering around the low single digits in New York and it is fashion week, you do not want to go to the shows looking like this:

because it will take you a good hour to defrost and by then the show will be over.  You want to look like this:

and if you don't have some hot wheels for your ride, then you can try this:

and I know my Mamma done told me that you "lose most of your body heat through your head, so wear a hat!"  I think this girl looks super chic - even if she does have a cold head : )

NYFW Bitter Cold Street Style

I think this photo sums up great bitter cold street style very well (although I did actually see some bare legs during this bitter cold, and, honeychilds, nothing is less attractive then a leg red from the cold!  Not to mention it sends a shiver down the spine of everyone who has to see that cold red leg.  So stay warm and stay stylish...)  Don't you love the pop of blue from the Celine bag against the cream colored coat and the collar that folds up looks very cozy.

The Row Romancing Romeo

I have seen only a few tantalizing images of The Row for Spring 2015 on Garance Dore's blog but it looks reminiscent of one of my favorite designers, Romeo Gigli, with the wrapping, the smock tops and the midi length.  Can not wait to see more images and mix a little vintage Romeo Gigli from my closet with The Row spring 2015...

Real Girl, Real Vintage in Chanel

I Love White.  I Hate White.  White.  Oh no, there is a little splash of my lunch on my white.  Ick, how did my white turn this color after I washed it?  Where did this yellow come from?  

I have had less a love affair with white and more of a torrid relationship.  I say yes when I mean no and I say no when I mean yes to white.  But there white was all over the fall 2014 runways in NY, taunting me and I find myself torn between a dream of a crisp white wardrobe and the more dingy reality.  

So when I acquired a pair of Chanel resin cuffs for RARE vintage, one in white with black CCs and one in black with white CCs, I thought this is a wearable white, a forever white.  Well, they did not stay long at RARE vintage (and no, not they did not find their way into my closet : ) although I seriously thought about it...

I loved seeing a similar cuff on this lovely girl during NYFW with red  nails, red lips and, gulp, a whole lot of white...  Real girl, real vintage in Chanel cuffs:

NYFW: Snow, Sleet and Socks

New York Fashion Week, I hardly knew you... with all of the snow, the difficulty getting around town and the thought of having to wear socks or not, NYFW has come and gone to London...

and on the last day when Marc Jacobs showed during a blizzard, everyone dressed winter ready:

I guess what I used to love about street style photography is that it was seeing the way real people put together a look - because most of us do not dress the way clothes are presented in magazines: in a head to toe runway look.  

We buy something new, something vintage : ) and mix it all up.  Fashion then becomes style.  

But suddenly street style photography became an orgy of color, caricature and over accessorizing - once again not the real way anyone dresses and certainly not style.

So what of the fashion on the runway?  I admit my heart is more in Paris, sometimes in Milan and more and more in London... and I really don't have enough time to look through endless shows on Style.com so I may very well have missed something amazing.  

I always look forward to Marc Jacobs and I thought this show which was going to herald a new focus on the Marc Jacobs line, without the commitment to Louis Vuitton, was a huge disappointment.  Vaguely Courreges, the styling drew more attention then the clothes...  Nothing there I had to have and with the cost of clothes these days you have to really want it.

The show I absolutely loved was Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein.  He showed real clothes but different then anything else we have in our closets - and clothes that made you feel really excited to go out and buy.  And with the weather we are having I would love to have those combat boots he showed with every look right now but alas we have to wait until August... : (

Fuzzy, wuzzy was a Costa this collection.  He estimated that 85% of the collection was a cozy knit.

and I love the homespun but really refined feel of the collection.  If you look closely, you will see that many of the jackets and coats closed with oversized safety pins with big plastic baubles on them...

The Twain Shall Meet: John Galliano and Oscar de la Renta. NYFW Fall 2013

It may have seemed like an impossible conversation two years ago, but when Oscar de la Renta generously offered studio space to John Galliano a few weeks ago, we all waited with quiet excitement to see what kind of conversation the two designers would have.

Oscar, the American designer, of the classically sheathed UES girl and John, the English born designer, of the impossibly romantic girl.

I think it was a beautiful conversation...

NYFW Fall 2013: Ralph Rucci

Last night my daughter and I went to see Ralph Rucci's Fall 2013 fashion show which was a wonderful glimpse into the rarefied world of Mr Rucci.  

He is one of the few designers whose designs do not swing wildly from one style to another every season, but one who works and builds on his craft with each collection.  I saw many women in the audience wearing Rucci and I thought they could easily add a few pieces from the show to their existing wardrobe - which is really how it should be.  Of course, I love vintage so I like to add something new to something old and would never wear head to toe current season.

I thought the collection was very Emma Peel meets Balenciaga.  

This was one of my favorite looks.  The gloves were fantastic and were done by Samantha Nguyen for Ralph Rucci.

This coat with a sort of cocoon shape was very beautiful - particularly from the side and the back.  And so modern with the fitted Manolo Blahnik for Ralph Rucci over the knee boots.

This was my second favorite look.  I would love to see the fabric of the shirt up close.  But the wrap skirt is incredible and so wearable - with boots, a chunky heel...  So great for every day.  Beautifully cut.

Victoria Floethe and LOOK.TV at RARE vintage!

Our lovely client, Victoria Floethe, who looks amazing in pretty much everything she puts on at RARE vintage, has a show, Sexy.  Not sexy. on Look TV and she came in for a bit of fashion week style advice with the über stylist Sally Lyndley (who had styled me for a Vogue shoot way back in the early days of RARE vintage).
